Ilex maximowicziana Kanehirae

Japanese holly is a bushy evergreen shrub with small, glossy, dark green leaves. In appearance it resembles boxwood, so it is also suitable as a substitute for it, as its care is not complicated. Its small, white flowers bloom in May. A sunny spot without direct sun, or partial shade, and well-structured, slightly acidic soil are ideal for it. Its water needs are moderate. It can be planted as an edging plant, in perennial beds, or as a clipped or unclipped hedge.
